Our Approach to Creative Pottery

At Small Glaze, we believe creativity should feel calm. accessible and deeply human. Our workshops are designed as gentle, welcoming spaces where people can slow down, reconnect, and enjoy the simple pleasure of making something by hand.

In a world that often feel fast and overwhelming, we create moments of stillness through clay - encouraging mindful creativity and joyful expression,

Every session we host is guided by intention, care, and a love for craft.

Amie Babu - Small Glaze Co-owner

Im a ceramic artist based in Wolverhampton, creating thoughtful, hand-built pieces inspired by the beauty of natural materials and everyday forms. My work is shaped by a love for simplicity, texture and quiet detail, drawing influence from Japanese wabi-sabi and the gentle imperfections found in nature.

This approach to making forms an important aspect of Small Glaze's hand-building workshops, I co-founded Small Glaze with my best friend, bringing our love of ceramics, creativity and connection into welcoming experiences for others.

I've been working with ceramics for almost ten years, exhibiting and selling my work through local galleries, exhibitions and craft fairs. I also exhibited at Wolverhampton Art Gallery as part of my MA degree, and continue to develop my work practice across both functional and artistic work.

I'm Som, a ceramic artist based in Burntwood, just outside of Lichfield. My journey with clay began after completing my BA in Applied Arts, where I discovered a deep love for making, process and playful experimentation. In 2020, I began my own creative path, developing Som's Clay where I developed a wide range of bespoke ceramic pieces to sell.  Alongside this, me and my best friend created Small Glaze - a space created to share our love of ceramics through creativity and connections through workshops.

I specialise in pinch pots and hand-built ceramics, while adding distinctive patterns to each piece which are individually hand-painted. My work often features bold, joyful floral designs inspired by a love of colour and maximalist expression.

Through both my ceramics and our workshops at Small Glaze, I hope to inspire others to slow down, create freely, and reconnect with their own creativity.
